Location: Malta
Salary: €45,000-€60,000 per annum
Working Arrangement: Hybrid - 3 days in the office, 2 days working from home

The Opportunity

We are looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel / Commercial Legal Specialist to join its growing team. Working closely with the Head of Legal, you will provide practical legal advice across a broad range of day-to-day commercial matters, helping the business manage legal risks and maintain compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and internal policies.

This is an excellent opportunity for a legal professional with strong commercial contract experience who is looking to take ownership of legal processes, contribute to strategic projects and help develop the legal function within a growing organisation.

You will play an important role in improving legal operations, strengthening governance frameworks and identifying opportunities to make legal services more efficient through process improvement and technology.

Your Responsibilities

• Manage the full contract lifecycle, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, executing, renewing and terminating commercial agreements.

• Develop, implement and maintain legal processes, policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

• Identify opportunities to streamline legal operations through process redesign, automation and technology.

• Maintain contract repositories and ensure appropriate governance and document management standards.

• Coordinate legal, regulatory and compliance transformation projects across the organisation.

• Research and assess legal risks associated with business decisions and operational activities, providing practical recommendations.

• Oversee contract execution using electronic signature platforms.

• Assist with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) checks when required.

• Review and update standard commercial contract templates and internal legal documentation.

• Monitor emerging legal issues and provide proactive advice to relevant stakeholders.

• Support the continuous improvement and scalability of the Legal function.

Requirements

• A law degree from an accredited institution.

• Previous legal experience, gained within a law firm or an in-house legal team.

• Strong knowledge of commercial law and experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating and managing commercial contracts.

• Experience working within telecommunications, e-commerce, information technology, software or other technology-related industries would be advantageous.

• Understanding of data protection legislation and legal compliance requirements.

• Experience developing legal processes, policies or governance frameworks would be beneficial.

• Knowledge of AML and KYC requirements is an advantage but is not essential.

• A legal practising warrant is desirable but not required.
