Migration Engineer - VM Ware to Azure

Job Title: VMware to Azure Migration Engineer
Location: Fully Remote - Client is based in London
Rate: £480-£500 a day
Start Date: Mid Sept
Job Type: Contract 6 months

We are looking for an experienced VMware to Azure Migration Engineer to support the planning, design, and execution of complex infrastructure migration projects. The successful candidate will have strong hands-on experience migrating virtual machines and applications from VMware environments to Microsoft Azure / Azure Local, ideally within a manufacturing environment.

Key Skills & Responsibilities

• Lead and support VMware to Azure migrations, from discovery and planning through to successful cutover.
• Develop detailed migration plans, designs, and execution strategies.
• Perform application and VM migrations from VMware to Azure Local.
• Troubleshoot VM conversion, networking, storage, performance, and compatibility issues throughout the migration lifecycle.
• Provide technical support for Azure migration projects within manufacturing environments.
• Conduct migration discovery, dependency analysis, readiness assessments, and application impact assessments.
• Execute migration cutovers and coordinate activities with technical teams, application owners, business stakeholders, and third-party suppliers.
• Perform post-migration validation, optimisation, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
• Ensure migrated workloads meet required security, backup, disaster recovery, governance, and compliance standards.
• Identify and resolve technical risks and blockers, escalating where appropriate.
• Produce and maintain migration documentation, technical procedures, and operational handover documentation.

Key Technical Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi environments.
• Proven experience with Microsoft Azure and/or Azure Local.
• Practical experience migrating workloads from VMware to Azure/Azure Local.
• Strong understanding of Windows Server, networking, storage, DNS, Active Directory, and application dependencies.
• Experience with VM conversion and migration tooling and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of Azure networking, security, backup, disaster recovery, and governance.
• Experience working within structured change management and migration processes.
• Manufacturing or industrial IT/OT environment experience would be highly advantageous.
