Job Title: Senior SQL Data Engineer
Location: Sutton (2 days in the office - Tuesdays and Thursday)
Salary/Rate: £400-450 per day inside IR35
Start Date: September
Job Type: Initial 12 month contract

Company Introduction
We have an exciting opportunity now available with one of our Data Analytics clients in Sutton.

They are currently looking for a skilled Senior SQL Data Engineer with experience managing a Snowflake estate to join their team in Sutton on a hybrid basis.

Key experience required for this role includes: Snowflake, Python Programming, CI/CD Pipelines, Github Actions, & ETL. CoPilot is used for code reviews and develpment. AI experience in this space is very beneficial.

Job Responsibilities/Objectives
This role involves leading complex research, design, and software development activities within a defined functional area. It contributes directly to project plans, schedules, and development methodologies for cross-functional software products.
The role includes designing software solutions-often spanning multiple systems-mentoring more junior team members, and collaborating with users and customers to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.

• Design, develop and maintain complex data engineering solutions and software components.
• Build, optimise and maintain ETL and data synchronisation pipelines.
• Develop scalable Python applications and advanced SQL solutions.
• Design and evolve data models, including both normalised and dimensional models.
• Support and enhance the existing Data Lakehouse platform.
• Work collaboratively within Agile teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues.
• Participate in code reviews and follow secure development best practices.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical design.

Required Skills/Experience
The ideal candidate will have the following:

• Strong SQL with query optimisation and performance tuning.
• Strong Python development experience.
• Extensive ETL and data pipeline development experience.
• Experience working with Snowflake or a similar cloud data warehouse.
• Strong understanding of:
• o Normalised data models
• o Dimensional modelling
• Experience with multiple database technologies, including SQL and NoSQL.
• Experience with DevOps practices.
• Hands-on experience using GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar.

Desirable

• AWS services including:
• o S3
• o Lambda
• o SQS
• o SNS
• o IAM
• Terraform
• Linux
• .NET
• Experience supporting modern Data Lakehouse platforms.
