Job Title: Java Back End Developer
Location: Basildon Essex
Salary/Rate: £490-£500 a day
Start Date: Mid May
Job Type: Contract initially 8 months likely to be extended beyond December a further 12 months depending on performance

We are working with a leading global financial services organisation to recruit a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join their Identity Management Services team. This is a key role focused on building and evolving the core identity platform that underpins critical systems across the business.

The Role

As a senior engineer, you will design and develop high-scale backend services while acting as a technical leader within the team. You'll play a central role in shaping architecture, driving best practices, and mentoring engineers to elevate overall technical capability.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment but also enjoys influencing engineering culture, improving standards, and leading by example.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services for identity management systems
• Lead technical discussions and contribute to architectural decisions
• Champion modern software engineering practices across the team
• Ensure platform security, resilience, and performance at scale
• Mentor and support team members to upskill in backend and DevOps practices
• Collaborate within an Agile development environment

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong experience with Java and modern Java frameworks
• Proven background in backend/web service development
• Solid understanding of DevOps practices (CI/CD, version control)
• Experience with security and identity management systems
• Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and observability tools
• Strong experience with relational databases
• Excellent leadership and stakeholder communication skills
• Comfortable working in Agile teams

Desirable Skills

• Understanding of networking concepts (subnets, firewalls, load balancing, VPNs)
• Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities
• Exposure to cloud platforms (ideally GCP)

Location & Working Pattern

• Based in Dunton, Essex
• Onsite 4 days per week
