Job Title: Lead DevOps and Automation Engineer
Location: Cheltenham, Manchester, London or Scarborough
Salary: Up to £75,000
Start Date: Immediately
Job Responsibilities/Objectives
As a Lead DevOps & Automation Engineer, you will lead the delivery and evolution of DevOps capabilities across secure, enterprise-scale environments. You will drive automation, champion Infrastructure as Code, and mentor a team of engineers while delivering innovative, reliable solutions.
1. Lead and develop a team of DevOps Engineers, embedding best practices and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
2. Design, implement, and maintain automation solutions and Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
3. Develop scripts, services, and CI/CD pipelines to improve operational efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
4. Provide echnical leadership, troubleshooting, and mentoring throughout project lifecycles, ensuring successful delivery.
5.Collaborate with internal stakeholders and support pre-sales activities by translating technical requirements into effective solutions.
Required Skills/Experience
The ideal candidate will have the following:
1. Proven experience in a Lead or Senior DevOps role within secure, enterprise-scale environments, with the ability to mentor and develop technical teams.
2. Strong hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tools, including Ansible and Terraform, alongside scripting in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
3. Experience designing and supporting CI/CD pipelines, container technologies (such as Kubernetes), and Microsoft and Linux infrastructure.
4. Active eDV (Enhanced Developed Vetting) security clearance, with excellent troubleshooting skills and a proactive approach to delivering automation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Desirable Skills/Experience
1. Experience with GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, Tanzu, or other container orchestration technologies.
2. Strong understanding of Configuration Management, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and enterprise automation best practices.
3. Knowledge of network security, TCP/IP networking, and the design of secure, highly available systems.
4. Experience working across on-premises, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments, with the ability to contribute to technical solution design and documentation.
