Senior Backend Software Engineer (Java) - Identity Management Services
Location: Dunton, Essex (Must be on-site 4x a week)
Contract: Initial 7 Month Contract
Rate: £460- £560 a day (Inside IR35)

We're looking for an experienced Senior Backend Software Engineer to join a high-performing Identity Management Services team, building the core platform behind a large-scale enterprise identity infrastructure.
You'll design and develop secure, resilient, high-scale Java services while providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers and driving engineering best practices across the team.
The Role
- Design and develop high-scale backend services using Java.
- Build secure, resilient and highly available applications.
- Provide technical leadership and mentor engineers.
- Champion TDD, pair programming and clean coding practices.
- Contribute to architecture and technical design.
- Support CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, monitoring and logging.
- Collaborate within Agile teams to deliver high-quality software.
Essential Skills & Experience
- 8 years' commercial backend Java development.
- Experience designing and building high-scale backend services.
- Background delivering highly transactional systems within regulated environments (Banking, Financial Services, FinTech, Telecoms or similar).
- Strong knowledge of Java frameworks and server-side technologies.
- Experience with CI/CD, Git and DevOps practices.
- Strong relational database experience.
- Experience with security-focused development, ideally Identity & Access Management or Identity Infrastructure.
- Technical leadership experience with mentoring responsibilities.
- Excellent communication skills and Agile delivery experience.

- Identity & Access Management (IAM)
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Networking knowledge (subnets, firewalls, VPNs, load balancing)
- Monitoring and logging platforms
What We're Looking For
This role suits engineers who are passionate about engineering excellence and collaborative development. You'll be comfortable practising Test Driven Development (TDD) daily, pair programming as part of your normal workflow, mentoring others and building clean, scalable backend solutions.
Please note: Pair programming and TDD are key parts of the interview process, so candidates must have genuine, hands-on experience with both.
